What should I cover during my Monthly and Quarterly Counseling Sessions with my Soldiers?

Think of what you want to know about in your counseling session. How do you envision your counseling session going with your leader? Is it a good or bad process that your leader uses? How can you improve upon your leader’s counseling process? Ask other leaders what a great counseling session looks like. What are some of the topics you should cover during these counseling sessions? How about: Areas to sustain, improve, education, promotion, upcoming events, and the Soldier’s role in the upcoming event. Help the leader fill out their -1A support form if they are new to the process. Don’t leave your Soldiers hanging…information and constructive feedback are critical to success of any counseling session.

This video describes the various topics that should be discussed during the monthly and quarterly counseling process using the DA Form 4856, DA Form 2166-9-1A and DA Form 67-10-1A. The topics will ensure the Soldier receives a well rounded and personal counseling session.
