Army Counseling Assessments of the DA FORM 4856 is one of the most overlooked parts of counseling yet it is absolutely the most critical step of the process as it lets the Soldier know if they have completed the plan of action to standard. Learn how to become a great counselor and an awesome leader. Did you know that an event-oriented counseling statement is not complete until the assessment block is completed? A good JAG Defense officer can argue that since the assessment is not complete the counseling statements cannot be used in a separation / chapter action. A leader that fails to conduct an assessment has failed their Soldier.
